Notes from the Chair…

Welcome to the Paul Canoville Foundation newsletter!

We are thrilled to share with you our latest updates and achievements in supporting individuals and communities affected by racism, poverty, and mental health issues.

The Paul Canoville Foundation is a registered charity established by former Chelsea FC player, Paul Canoville, who has been a passionate advocate for equality and social justice throughout his life.

With a strong focus on education, mentorship, and empowerment, our foundation aims to create opportunities for individuals to realise their potential and lead fulfilling lives.

Through our various programs and partnerships, we are committed to making a positive impact and promoting inclusion and diversity.

We hope that this newsletter will inspire you to join us in our mission and support our cause.

All the best,
Matt

Some highlights from 2023 so far…

Community Football

Our first project in partnership with Sport England took place over half term in February 2023.

We had a lot of fun and success coaching and making lunches for 50 children from Lambeth Tigers for the week!

Our aim is to build on this and run more sessions for children to have fun and be fed in the London area and particularly in West London.

Apparel Launch

One of our key fundraising routes is the merchandise we produce and sell in partnership with our special friends at Love Football Hate Racism.

  • Our latest range was recently launched with a photo shoot featuring our Patron and Chelsea starlet (currently on loan at Ipswich Town) Omari Hutchinson, alongside fans nominated through our social media channels, in recognition of their work with young people in the community.
  • Buying a cap, mug, t-shirt or hoodie from our store helps us fund our educational and community coaching programmes.

Schools Outreach

To be with Paul when he speaks to young people is to witness something special. He makes connections easily through his storytelling and message. Having played for Chelsea FC as their first black player, he comes with a huge excitement factor.

With engagements at Eton College who described him both as, “…a true maverick…” and, “…one of a kind…”.

A burgeoning relationship with Kettering Buccleuch Academy to develop our offering for schools and an incredibly exciting collaboration between the Paul Canoville Foundation, Westminster City Council and Chelsea FC.

This is an area that the Paul Canoville Foundation is excited to develop and offer to all schools.

You can enquire here about your school collaborating with The Paul Canoville Foundation.

HYPG (Hackney Young Players Group)

This is an exciting collaboration involving Hackney Council, Chelsea FC, the Celtic FC Foundation, the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and Arsenal in the Community to develop a multi year programme offering education, training, some employment opportunities and mentoring for a cohort of young players.

Westminster City Council and Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Schools Programme

Another exciting collaboration between the Paul Canoville Foundation, Chelsea FC, Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Delivering a bespoke educational programme around the dangers of drug use for children prior to their commencement of secondary education. Marcus who was at the event has written a blog about the experience here.

Part of this programme includes a bespoke animation of Paul’s story by the incredibly talented Zoom Rockman.

An Evening with Paul, in Cheltenham

On the 18th of September, Paul will be in Cheltenham at a unique event being hosted by Bath Road Beers. The tickets are 7.50 pounds and include a welcome drink! Any tickets purchased will enter you into a prize draw to win a signed shirt from Paul himself, as well as our patron Omari Hutchinson.

To purchase tickets, contact Marcus.

“Black & Blue Legends” – Our 2023 BHM Event

We worked with Chelsea FC last October to deliver a fantastic BHM event that focussed on celebrating the variety of Chelsea FC’s black players.

We hope to eclipse that this year!

We will be working with Chelsea FC once again and have already set a date for this year’s event; which will be the 14th of October.

Keep an eye on our social media for details of how you can get involved!

Volunteers

We would not be able to do the work we have without our wonderful volunteers who bring energy, excitement, skill and passion to everything we do.

If you are keen to get involved, then please get in touch here.

Canners talking

Paul was recently interviewed for the Us People podcast by the multi-talented Savia Rocks.
