Last month The FA organised a theatre production to mark Black History Month, which told the stories of three pioneering Black female players in the game.
Still We Roar was a 40-minute theatre show which highlighted the inspirational stories of Kerry Davis, England women’s first Black player; Hope Powell, England’s first female and Black manager; and Mary Phillip, England women’s first Black captain.
Their paths have crossed many times, most notably at the Women’s World Cup in Sweden in 1995, where the play is set.
The show took place at Wembley Stadium on Thursday 26 October, and was written by Naomi Denny and directed by Rasheka Christie-Carter – followed by a live Q&A with Kerry, Hope and Mary.
We were really proud to attend this invitation-only event, along with other community groups, former professional players, coaches and people working across the game.
